PHACELIA
PHACELIA- Phacelia tanacetifolia
Boraginaceae
Caespitose grass with stems that reach 45-110cm, it forms loose clusters with many shoots.
It is used for mixed meadows in fresh hill and mountain regions.
The plant is mainly used as a green manure crop to fertilise the soil in a natural way since it captures large amounts of nitrogen from the soil and then releases them. It also prevents the growth of weeds. Phacelia is also sown for honey production because of its long flowering period and abundant nectar.
The flower also attracts Syrphidae which feed on aphids and may therefore help in the biological struggle.
Caespitose grass with stems as tall as 45-110cm.
Production per hectare: about 15-20 quintals (100kg) of seeds.
