FRENCH HONEYSUCKLE
FRENCH HONEYSUCKLE – Hedysarum coronarium
Leguminosae
A spontaneous, perennial, rustic legume that grows in Italy, which recovers well and has a thick taproot. It prefers warm, dry climates and strong, calcareous clay soil.
The root system is full of tubercles that improve the properties of heavy clay soil types and helps prevent soil erosion.
This is a plant for warm climates and mild winters, therefore it is not grown north of the Apennine Mountains of Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna. It grows well in deep, rich and calcareous soil. It is not suitable for acidic, saline, compact or waterlogged soil types.
