BIRD’S-FOOT TREFOIL – Lotus cornicolatus

A perennial legume, 0.4-0.7m tall, with a taproot system that is robust and contains many tubercles.
The stalk is slender and upright, mostly hairless. It grows trifoliate leaves and its flowers are yellow.
Particularly suitable for meadows and mountain pastures, it is rustic and can be grown in almost any environment. It is resistant to cold and drought but it is more productive in fresh, humid climates.
As a pasture plant, bird’s-foot trefoil does not cause bloat, unlike alfalfa.
