It is a cereal for spring-summer herbal gardens that prefers soil types that are sandy, pebbly, calcareous, siliceous and therefore highly resistant to cold, damp climates.
It may be sown in its pure form for wax production in April, but it is often combined in crop rotations or used to sustain other herb species.
